To ask Gemini to work with images:-
- Click on Tools
- And select Create Images
1. If you are asking Gemini to analyse, describe, or edit a photo,
it supports the most common modern formats.
JPEG / JPG Standard photos, smaller file sizes.
PNG Graphics or screenshots where quality/transparency matters.
WebP Web-optimised images.
HEIC / HEIF High-efficiency photos typical of iPhones.
Size Limits: Generally up to 100 MB per file in the web app.
Quantity: You can typically upload up to 10 images at a time in a single prompt for analysis.
2. Output: Images that Gemini Generates
When Gemini generates an image, the style and aspect ratio can be considered.
Format: Gemini typically outputs images as JPEG or PNG .
Resolution: Free users usually get 1K (1024px)
Supported Aspect Ratios
You can tell Gemini to change the shape of the image using these common ratios:
Square (1:1): The default, best for social media.
Widescreen (16:9): Best for presentations or cinematic shots.
Portrait (9:16): Best for mobile screens/stories.
Fullscreen (4:3 or 3:4): Classic photo and TV dimensions.
Typical Visual Styles
Gemini can generate almost any visual "type" if you specify it in the prompt:
Photorealistic: High-detail shots that look like real photography.
Vector/Sticker: Clean lines with white backgrounds for icons.
Artistic: Watercolor, oil painting, pixel art, or 3D renders.
Text-Heavy: Unlike older AI models, Gemini is excellent at rendering specific text
(like logos or posters) inside images.
3. Advanced Capability: Image-to-Image
Gemini also supports "Image-to-Image" or Style Transfer.
This means you can upload an image of yourself and ask Gemini to:
"Turn this photo into a 3D cartoon."
"Change the background of this image to a beach."
"Combine these two photos into one."
As Gemini is made in America you will often get references to American culture or units ( $ not £)
to avoid this it can be useful to add UK or English in your request.
Example
Type in the following text in the area that says "Ask Gemini 3"
A poster that shows the advantage of Solar panels on a roof in the UK
You will not get the same as me but can experiment by editing the text. To do this, move your mouse to the area
above the response. You should see two options :-
- Two boxes for Copy. This will copy the text to your Clipboard.
- A pencil, which will allow you to Edit your text, then [update] so Gemini can try again.
That's all folks !
