Maureen and I met in 1974 she helped with the Cubs in Guildford I invited myself to the swimming sessions held at the local High School on Saturday mornings.
We would see each other at Cub events and over time we became good friends.
In October 1977 I started a temporary job teaching at Abingdon College of FE in Oxfordshire. My first time in digs away from home but I was home in Farncombe at weekends.
In November1977 Maureen left John and lived in the nurses accommodation near St.Lukes. We saw each other at weekends and in Feb 1978 Maureen moved in with me, we rented a house in Grove near Wantage. Maureen found a job working in the QA department of the local dairy. Later that year she became a staff nurse at Abingdon hospital. It was here that Maureen injured her neck when a patient she was lifting suddenly stopped supporting herself.
At the end of the summer term my job at the college was made permanent. We sold the Farncombe house and moved to Bailie Close in Abingdon in September 1978.
We were married on 27 Jan 1979.
The marriage ceremony was in the Abingdon Registry office, a short walk from our house near the Thames. Street view . But a walk to remember. Snow was on the ground and it was very cold and icey. We walked across the Ock bridge then into the town. Street view
Both our Mothers were hanging on to each other for dear life.
Tony took the pictures with my camera.
Afterwards the wedding breakfast at what was then called the "Head of the River"
