Home Assistant Views

Home Assistant (HA) is a software system that enables me to monitor and control the various "Smart Devices" that I have in this house.

I have the hardware version, known as Home Assistant Green.

The central heating system here is a gas boiler and radiators, split into two zones. Each zone; the house and the annexe has a master thermostat, here known as Hall and Annexe. Many of the radiators in the house have a smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV). All of these units are monitored by the Hive system, a software system that links each unit to each other and is part of the house IP network.

The setting of these can be done; manually, using the Hive App or now, by Home Assistant.

You can see the Hive view here. Each TRV in the lounge has a name LW, LN & LE (West, North & East) and can be monitored and adjusted remotely using HA. The Hive view gives me an overview of all the units. Which includes the state of the battery in each of the TRVs.

The Hive view is just one of the views within the system. Each main page or Dashboard, can have many pages or views.

In addition to the heating controls I also have a few smart switches, these were bought for use with Alexa but now I have made a new Control panel view. This has all of the units that I can switch in one view.

HA is a software system with many parts, known as Integrations. These are written by other users. One integration I have found useful is the Octopus Energy integration. With this I can see the Gas and Electricity smart meters and monitor the current price of my electricity, which changes every half hour.

Not only can I use HA to monitor, in real time but it also has a few integrations that offer predictions for the weather and solar generation. Both have to know the location of my house and a few technical bits about the solar set up. Weather and Solar view

It is easy to display graphs in HA. I have made a new view that shows all the smart TRV's Temperatures. It is good that I can combine the three TRV's in the lounge in one graph. The other four TRV's are in individual rooms, so I have shown these separately. One row shows weekly temperatures the other row, daily. I guess I will have to wait until winter to see if this view works.

Remote control

For reasons of security HA can not be accessed outside this house. This may be a problem if I am away but many of the smarts can be activated via my phone.
